Carnival in Nice is one of the main winter events on the French Riviera. It attracts millions of tourists from all around the world. And the reason for its popularity is obvious: for two weeks Nice turns into one big celebrating platform : themed parades and flower processions, jugglers, clowns and musicians, confetti and fancy carnival costumes, masquerade balls and parties – all this immerses the capital of Côte d’Azur into an atmosphere of fun and carefree.
Nice Carnival takes place over 15 days and it is divided into two main events : to the carnival itself, which takes place in the afternoon or evening at the main square – Place Masséna, and also the Flower Battle (Bataille des Fleurs), which takes place during the day. Each time the carnival program in Nice changes its theme, but its colorfulness and eventfulness remain unchanged.
“The Flower Battle” is a bright parade procession involving dozens of platforms decorated with hundreds of thousands of flowers. They will pass along the Promenade des Anglais. During the carnival weeks, the event will take place four times - on February 16, 20, 23 and 27. Each time starts at 14:30.
The King of Fashion (Roi de la mode) is the official theme of the carnival 2020. At this 136th carnival, it was decided to pay tribute and express gratitude to the German high-fashion icon, Karl Lagerfeld, who died on February 19, 2019, just during the previous carnival on the theme “Movie King” and dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the movie studio in Nice .
